♡ The Nigerian Woman needs to be written about often
The Nigerian Woman is a force to be reckoned with. With a country as rich and diverse in culture as Nigeria, there isn’t just one type of Nigerian woman. However, they surprisingly carry similarities in their mannerism.
She feels conflicted, being brought up in a world filled with western ideology
at a place with deep-rooted traditions.
On one hand there’s Beyonce belting out lyrics about independence and Chimamanda
voicing out phrases on feminism.
Whilst on the other, there’s her grandmother talking about her dressing or her aunt pestering about marriage.
But this girl, the Nigerian girl, has sorta figured it out.
She is transitioning into a Modern woman. A wife. A mother. Maybe a feminist too.
Who says you can’t be all.
She isn’t one to be underestimated, saddled with a brain that can conquer the world.
A force not to be reckoned with.
She may be a doctor or a market trader, regardless she strives for the best for her family.
May be she is perceived as the feeble sex, but she is as mighty as they ever come.
Her beauty may be used as a weapon against her, but her wit is beyond measure.
Just like the symbolic dandelion, her true power is immeasurable.
She will support you to the end of the earths but surprisingly the same is not accorded to her.
But this woman, the Nigerian Woman, overcomes!
She carries the burden of our soul on her back, literally and figuratively!
Always ready with a warm embrace and hearty laugh, but never forgetting to be firm.
She feeds our stomachs and nurses our egos, whilst instilling wisdom and discipline in us.
Her tools range from radio cables to slippers but mostly her angry voice works quite well.
She balances the roles in her life impressively, rivalling a veteran juggler.
This person, the Nigerian Mother, is the true epitome of strength and endurance.
Lets raise our glasses to our unsung heroes who grace the invisible pages of history!!
