On my 3rd Day at Kuala Lumpur, I made plans to meet up with my friends from childhood. We planned on having lunch together and seeing what else we could get up to. We met up at a mall near my hotel and we headed to the Petronas Twin towers cos I had not seen it up close yet.
They filled me in on info about places we passed on the way up until we got to the towers. I couldn’t wait to check it out, so they dropped me off and went to find parking.
I was shocked by how “giant” the building looked. As you can see here on the right picture, my tiny head had nothing on these two towers. They were massive, like standing at the foot of the tower felt intimidating. But it was beautiful too! I was so excited to see what it looked like inside so I headed in first. There was a huge lobby which led to different parts of the tower but we wanted the mall section.
We wanted to check out the mall part of the tower for a restaurant, but we ended up just walking around and going outside where there was a lawn and fountains—sorry don’t have photos of that. One of the guys suggested a restaurant at pavillion, the mall in this post, so we headed there and being a foodie, I was looking forward to it.
I got a chance to look at the scenery around pavillion this time around without worrying about finding an outfit or shopping. It was soo bright, colourful and just gorgeous. I took these photos with my phone and I am surprised by how goood they look! We got to the restaurant and I was expecting it to be a Malay restaurant but it was actually serving western food.
The restaurant was called Tony Roma’s and their motto was “Legendary in ribs, Famous for so much more“! Well that was welcoming!
We got in and found seats and TBH the restaurant looked like any regular steakhouse chain with booth seating and all. We ordered different versions of the ribs and I got the Lamb Ribs Roma Rack—Tender, marinated lamb ribs flame grilled in signature seasonings,Finished with reduction of honey and plum combined with fresh juice and hand-cut ginger. This came with sides of rice and broccoli.
The Lamb ribs has apparently won awards and I can see why because this was the best ribs I have ever tried, no joke! It was soo good, like soo good, tender and juicy and taste-FUL. The bread roll tasted like it was freshly made and even the butter was good. We tried to compare iPhone and Samsung photos of our meals and I have to say My Samsung won!
Afterwards we walked around the mall a bit and decided to head out of Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya where the prime minister’s residence was located. On the way there, I got a chance to see more of Malaysia and how developed the country is. For some reason, whenever I travel abroad, seeing how far developed a nation is and all the infrastructure and easy access to facilities such as a good transport network, makes me dream of a day when Nigeria will reach and surpass such levels.
Apparently this side of Malaysia is predominantly occupied by Malays and it is mostly a residential area compared to how commercial Kuala Lumpur is and even the architecture was a bit more traditional. We arrived at the Prime Minister’s residence and I was surprised to see so many people there. Literally the ‘palace looking building’ in the picture below is the Prime Minister’s Residence and the grounds where people are chilling is part of the residence and apparently a huge tourist attraction. It felt nice to see this.
Before you get to the park, there is this really long driveway overlooking a river that you can ride a carriage on—this would be soo romantic to do at night with someone you love, I feel it will be magical…back to reality Mira!
The River is artificially made and is called Putrajaya Lake and on its waterfront sits the Pink Mosque AKA the Putra Mosque—the right hand photo in the collage below. These all sit next to Perdana Putra which is the name of the Prime Minister’s Residence in Putrajaya...whew, that’s a lot of Putra to remember!
We stopped and took photos with the horsies and I tried to touch one trying to be all brave and stuff but I chickened out at the end. At this point I was in such high spirits and it was getting late but they promised me a surprise view of the twin towers at night so we decided to head back to Kuala Lumpur. I really want to come back here and try riding the horsies down the driveway and try to be a make-believe princess with my knight in shining armor/prince charming.
We got back to Kuala Lumpur and headed to a hotel facing the Petronas Towers. Apparently the hotel has a rooftop restaurant/bar which promises a good view of the tower. We got up to the hotel and I was pleasantly surprised and awed by the view in front of me.
When you walk into the place, there is this massive windows with a view of the towers and as you walk in further, you find that the entire wall facing the towers is all glass with sofas lined there in an Arabian style. Smack in the middle of all this is a swimming pool with chairs and high tables scattered around it.
It was packed and to get the window seat, you have to reserve so my excitement died down a little. We hung out for a bit, chatted and had a good laugh, took photos and left. I noticed a group of girls who walked in just for photos and left, they must have been tourists too..haha. This location would be perfect for a date or a girls night out or if you are willing to splurge, a birthday party!
This brought an end to our adventures. They took me back to the hotel and I called it a night. Here is one of the photos I took of the towers, to be honest, nothing beats what you get to see in reality. Thank you guys for showing me a bit of your Malaysia, it was short but fun! See you guys soon in this side of the world 🙂
