KOREAN: 새해 is one of the words that means ‘new year‘, 복 means ‘luck’, and 많이 means ‘many’ or ‘lots of’. 받으세요 is the honorific way of saying 받다, meaning ‘to receive’. Thus, 새해 복 많이 받으세요 means Please receive lots of luck this year.
MANDARIN: Gong Xi (恭禧) is congratulations or respectfully wishing one joy. Fa Cai (發財) is to become rich or to make money. Thus, Gong Xi Fa Cai means wishing you to be prosperous in the coming year.
Happy New Year!
I cannot believe how long it has been since I have written on here.
It is true what they say, that the longer you leave something, the harder it is to come back to it. You may just think you are taking a break but then you become comfortable in your “break time”, and so moments when you have a fleeting thought about the thing/person you are breaking from, you may have a yearning to get back to it. However, opening up a space in your now comfortable routine and busy life becomes difficult and you say the magic words, “maybe tomorrow”
But you see tomorrow is not specific, It could mean weeks, months or even years. And so is the story of my “maybe tomorrow” that began a couple of months back.
I took a break from the blog but not from writing – thank God – but coming back here to share my thoughts with you guys, as simple an act as it is, became all too difficult. At first it was because I was on holiday and I wanted to enjoy my time at home –I was still collecting content and ideas to share for when the break was over– then Uni took over and I had project deadlines and exams to prepare for, and when that was over, I went on a trip.
Basically with all the packing and unpacking, Jet lag and the craziness of starting work –oh yeah, I’m working– Life just got a little bit too much and so I missed the January posts I had planned and the promises of write-ups and so on…
Hence as the lunar new year reared its head, I decided to just leap into it and at least start somewhere with the blog.
New Year, new and old beginnings?
I hope you are a little less mad at me and a little more understanding. Writing is my sanctuary and you lot are my patronus of some sort –any potterheads on here?–and so I do hope you continue reading about my ramblings and also join my not-so-organized conversions about life, and all the little tidbits that come with it.
According to the lunar calendar, this is the Year of the rooster, which is associated with forward thinking and lots of self confidence. I wonder what will come along for me and you guys this year…
So to mark new beginnings, I will be adding new segments with fresh ideas which I think you’ll love and appreciate. This is my update, I am curious what have y’all been up to?
With love always,
