As a skincare nerd, the words ‘DIY Facial scrub’ always put a smile on my face.
They say green tea is an acquired taste but I say we all need to acquire it! The benefits we derive from the little teabag is so worth bearing the taste of the tea—plus the more you drink it, it slowly grows on you. Green tea does not only have health benefits—such as aiding weight loss— but it also is good for our skin. It contains a lot of antioxidants which flushes out toxins and aid in getting rid of acne—you know that is the magic word! This it does by unclogging pores and removing dirt.
There are plenty of ways you can use green tea, you can splash it on your face or rub the teabag on your face. But for getting rid of impurities we’ll use it as an exfoliate! In this recipe, the sugar, honey and green tea makes an abrasive texture which when rubbed in, removes impurities such as dead skin cells. It is good for correcting sun damage too.
What you’ll need to make the DIY Facial scrub:
- First put your kettle on and make a nice cup of pure green tea, take the teabag out—don’t squeeze it!
- 1 tsp of sugar
- 1 Tbsp of honey
- A dish & spoon for mixing it
Make your Mask
Mix everything together, add the honey carefully because if it’s too much you’ll have a problem when applying. You may add or reduce depending on the consistency you get. The 1 tbsp is a guide. Apply the mixture onto your face—avoiding the eye area—it does get a bit messy so I recommend you do it in the bathroom wearing an old T-shirt or similar clothing.
Not my brightest smile but we’ll work on that later!
Don’t rub it in just yet, leave it on your face until the honey has dried up a bit. Now this next step is important so listen carefully…pick up your mobile phone, open snapchat and give your brightest smile to the camera! Good, now on to the next step!
Time to rub it in. Use your finger to gently rub it in a circular motion. This helps it to penetrate into your skin. Leave it on for 20-30 mins and rinse it off with water. Now you’ve got your healthy, smooth, dirt-free skin thanks to this DIY Facial scrub.
P.S: Don’t forget to keep sipping your Green tea whist you pamper your skin.
Love this! Will certainly give it a go. I love making my own exfoliating facials. Will share more recipes soon! 🙂
I love DIY as well 🙂 and I’m getting into making my own cosmetics. You should, I love that you can make a badge and use it for a week or two. Love the refurbished blog BTW, can’t wait to read more posts 🙂
